Annapurna
Humbled by the majestic Annapurna range
experiences, travel
Sarangkot is a hill near the city of Pokhara where you get a mesmerising view of the sunrise. When I woke up that day, I had this sudden desire to listen to Zariya, a song composed by AR Rahman for Coke Studio S03. It was weird because I hadn't listened to it in years. I took the only earbud I had and scratched the itch.
Zariya is a fusion of Buddhist enchantments, Sufi text, and Bollywood music. It is a song about motherhood and compassion. The Sufi text celebrates the feminine spirit that acts as a medium ("Zariya") of creation between the divine spirit and a new life.
We reached Sarangkot and spent an hour observing the Synergy (pun intended) between the clouds, mountains, and the Sun. While boarding the minibus to go back to the hotel, I saw a mountain range near the horizon. It was beyond what I can put into words. I quickly rushed to the peak again to see the view. For a moment, I felt like shifting the entire energy of my other four senses to my eyes, and fully absorb what I am seeing with my eyes. It was the Annapurna range.
In Hinduism, Annapurna is a manifestation of Parvati, a goddess of power, nourishment, creation, and motherhood. Annapurna provides food and nourishment to all living beings. The literal meaning of the word is "goddess of food". The mountain range is named Annapurna because the rivers originating from these mountains flow in all seasons, supporting greenery, vegetation, and farming wherever they flow.
Somehow, somewhere, beyond the capabilities of a human mind, everything is connected. And you are a part of it.
